Size of Groups
4 -15 people (groups that grow larger than ten eventually
birth a group or two.) Reunion Groups: limit 4-6 people
Leadership of Groups
Group leaders are trained and required to have an apprentice.
(Apprentice Leaders are preparing to lead their own
group someday)
Frequency of Meetings
Most groups meet weekly; some twice each month.
Curriculum
Left up to leaders and members to decide (popular resources
include: The Serendipity Bible, "That The World
May Know" videos, "Walking With God"
series, other Bible studies, and courses such as "Disciple
Bible Study", "Becoming a Contagious Christian",
and "A Woman After God's Own Heart").
Location
Varies, although most meet in homes, some rotate, some
remain in one home; members decide who will host the
meetings
Duration
Groups do not continue indefinitely; after 6 months
to 2 years, they "birth" new groups or redefine
their purpose.
Who Attends
Most groups are "open" (that is, they have
a core membership and encourage the use of the "open
chair" to allow for newcomers.
Types of Small Groups
• Christian Community Groups (couples, singles,
same sex, or co-ed)
• Serving Groups (groups which meet for the fulfillment
of a task or volunteer ministry)
• Seeker Groups (designed for non-believers to
investigate the faith)
• Youth (Mid-high, Senior-high, Confirmation)
• Bible Focused Groups
Oversight of Groups
All group leaders have a "Coach" who oversees
up to five groups. Coaches are led by a staff "Division
Leader" who shepherds up to ten coaches.
