The people of Northbrook UMC have always been strong in Christian service. Giving time, sharing skills and talents, utilizing spiritual gifts, people have grown spiritually, ministries have been created and furthered, the lives of people have been transformed! God has worked in and through the lives of this congregation to provide a vital place of worship, growth, and service to the community and the world.

ADMINISTRATION

Newsletter/mass mailing: Volunteers to fold and label newsletter every other Thursday at 9:00am.
Phone/office aid: Volunteers to answer phones one morning or afternoon a week, and other office duties.

CHILDREN

If interested, contact Sue Maulbetsch at 770-992-2000 ext. 230.

Sunday School teacher: For children aged three through kindergarten - nine month commitment (end of August until end of May). 1st - 5th rotation teachers - 5 week commitment. Sunday School shepherd: 9 month commitment.
Sunday School superintendent: Count Sunday School offering and record attendance.
Sunday School snack coordinator: At 9:30 put out snacks on trays for the Sunday school teachers. At 12:00 put trays away.
Sprouts Leader: Ten week commitment. Lead 4th and 5th grade small covenant discipleship group in issues of justice.
Vacation Bible School teacher: Teach VBS and enjoy an exciting week of mission activities, fun, and Bible stories.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE

Hospital/Home visitation: Visit hospitalized or homebound members at the request of pastors.
Cancer support: Support members undergoing cancer treatment.
Grief support: Support members grieving the loss of a loved one.
Meal ministry: Provide meals for church families during times of crisis on a rotating basis.
New baby ministry: Provide support to expectant mothers before and after the birth or adoption of a baby.

EVANGELISM

Visitor phone follow-up: Volunteers to contact visitors by phone one night a week, to greet them and express thanks for visiting our church and answer any questions.
Evangelism committee: Volunteers to attend bi-monthly meetings. Volunteers will oversee the Evangelism programs at NUMC.
Fellowship Friend: Volunteers to sponsor a new family to our church for a three month period.
Newcomers' brunch: Volunteer to help with brunch for new members/visitors. Brunches provided on Sunday three times a year.
Refreshment coordinator - evangelism events: Volunteer to provide food and refreshments.
Greeters: Volunteers to greet members and visitors attending worship. 15-20 minutes one Sunday per month at one service.

FAMILY LIFE EVENTS

Event volunteer: Volunteers needed for various church events throughout the year; including Easter Egg Hunt, Fall Festival and Advent Festival.
Event coordinator: Coordinate family events set by the Family Life Committee, such as Intergenerational Sunday School, Easter Egg Hunt, Advent Festival and Family Retreats.

MUSIC & WORSHIP

Handbell choir member: Open to senior high and adult ringers. Rehearsals are Tuesdays, 7:00-8:30 pm. Childcare is provided.
Orchestra member: Orchestra participation in regular and special services. Rehearsals on Sunday afternoons. Players of all instruments needed.
Chancel (adult)/Youth choir member: Open to all who have a desire to sing and serve God through music. Chancel choir provides music at the 9:30 and 11:00 worship services. Rehearsals are Wednesdays 7:30-9:00pm. Youth sing regularly for Sunday morning worship and participate in the Arts in Ministry tour in June. Youth rehearsals are Wednesdays 6:00-7:00pm.
Sound system volunteer: Operate sound system for Sunday morning worship services and/or special events. Experience in running a mixer board helpful, but training is available.
Tape ministry: Duplicate and/or distribute cassette tapes of the Sunday morning worship to shut-ins and others as requested.
Children's choir director: Plan and direct one of the children's choirs in rehearsal and performances. Must be able to sing and read music, and work with and relate to children.
Children's choir rehearsal assistant: Needs include: choir parent (to assist in facilitating rehearsals); robing and
costuming for performances; attendance and record keeping.
Children's choir accompanist: Accompany and assist a children's choir in rehearsal and some performances. Must be proficient on piano. One 30-minute rehearsal per week.
Performing Arts Camp volunteer: Help during Summer Performing Arts week, with costumes, crafts, sets, choreography, music or snacks.
Usher: Assist with distributing sendee bulletins, receiving the offering, seating worshippers and other tasks to facilitate the worship service.
Altar Guild: Prepare the altar table and elements for communion, maintain and care for the candles, baptismal font, paraments and other liturgical symbols sound in the altar area.

PRAYER MINISTRY

Church support: Pray daily for our church, staff and leaders.
Worship support: Pray with our pastors before worship.
Intercessor: Pray daily for email prayer requests.
Prayer Group member: Pray with a prayer group on Tuesday morning.

STEWARDSHIP

Stewardship Committee: Volunteers to attend meetings July through October. Volunteers will oversee the Stewardship program at NUMC
Stewardship witness: Volunteers to witness to the congregation their own stewardship story.
Crown Ministry leader: Volunteer to lead our Crown Ministry Small Bible Study group. A 13 week commitment, once or twice a year.

YOUTH

Drama volunteer: Assist the drama group director in the practices and productions of youth dramas. Help build sets, make costumes, operate sound system and lighting.
Youth Sunday school teacher: Present lesson material and lead discussion with youth.
Sunday night youth counselor: Attend UMYF every Sunday night and assist in facilitating lessons, games, worship and small group discussions.
Youth volunteer: Be willing to do various tasks, such as pick up supplies, prepare or set up events, chaperone etc.
Youth mail coordinator: Assist youth office in getting mailings out.
Praise band volunteer: Assist Praise Band director in practice. Help with sound and lighting.
